Operational Projects
First of its kind Green Hydrogen blending with LPG plant at Tirupati
In March 2025, HFE commissioned its first of a kind Green Hydrogen blending with PNG/LPG plant at the Tirupati factory of Rockman Industries, a leading manufacturer of automobile alloy wheels. This project is a real-world demonstration of how green hydrogen can decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors like automobile manufacturing, metallurgy, and heavy industries—without requiring major infrastructure changes.
Project Highlights
- A rooftop solar plant is installed to generate Green Hydrogen on site using 300 kW PEM electrolyzer
- The client’s manufacturing process involves heating in furnace to melt aluminum alloy ingots
- The Green Hydrogen produced can be blended with both LPG (8-10%) and PNG (3%), ensuring compatibility with existing burners without modifications
- The electrolyzer has the dynamic capability to automatically ramp up or down to maintain a stable and accurate blending ratio
- While hydrogen blending with PNG is common, this is the first successful real-world demonstration of Hydrogen blending with LPG for industrial heating
- No modifications required in burner operation and product quality unaffected
- Annual green hydrogen production of 25 TPA, with potential expansion to 54 TPA as furnace optimization continues
- More than 200 TPA CO₂ reduction, marking a significant step towards industrial decarbonization
- Comprehensive safety and regulatory approvals (HARA, HAZOP, HAZID) secured, making this a fully compliant and risk-mitigated deployment
The success of this project proves that green hydrogen can be seamlessly integrated into industrial heating applications—maintaining efficiency while reducing emissions. It provides a scalable blueprint for industries like cement, steel, petrochemicals, and chemicals to adopt hydrogen-based solutions.
By successfully blending hydrogen with LPG, we have taken a significant step forward in enabling industries to decarbonize today, without waiting for long-term policy shifts or infrastructure overhauls.
